i understand what youre saying! I think you confused some viewers because you changed postitions as you went through the modes. Many can't see (or hear) that you are using the same notes that you used in the original E? major (ionian) scale. Makes perfect sense to me! Good vid.

Why can't some? people be nice from time to time. In the UK we have a saying - "If you haven't got anything positive to say....then don't say it". As far as this tutorial video goes, I think that the level of abuse directed at Expert Village is rather surprising. I didn't really understand the rest of your comment but I presume it was not a compliment directed at me. I also realise that the English language can be quite tricky so no offence has been taken.

I'll put up a proper video later for anyone interested in modes dont listen to the guy on the video, doesn't play 7 positions uses F# twice as his root for Dorian and Aolian in the same? SCALE!!!

modes dont just change the root, this is what confised people, the modes have flatened and sharp intervals, don't think modes just change the root, because you are just playing E major but chaginf the tonality which won't sound very good, this is the way i learned modes to be, still learning to so don't take this as all fact just know that modes are not a simple as changing the root, everyone should read a book on the subject :)?

Listen to the sound, Dorian has a flat 3rd and flat? 7th, so play regular Major (Ionian mode) over E and lower the 3rd and 7th by a half step to get E Dorian mode, simple

This is going to confuse people, why are people marking this comment as wrong it's correct, this guy is playing e major all over the neck not the modes, he is showing the positions which can be used to determine the modes but not actually playing the? modes. Think of it like this you see the second pattern he plays (dorian starting on F#), transfer this pattern back to the root E to get E Dorian.

Modes just change the root note. The Key stays the same and so does the scale, just arranged in different orders. Modes are so easy, people? try to make them complicated for some reason.
